Here’s the thing. In the wake of the whole niqab discourse, it’s impossible not to see this person as a veiled woman.


I knew people in Asia wore masks to protect themselves from germs and pollution, but it’s a disturbing kind of adaptation to the environment to have permanent, stylish cloth face coverings. About half the women on motos in Ho Chi Minh wear masks, almost all cloth pretty ones, and a good number have whole office-outfit covering wraps.

Kind of fuses the climate change/ clash of cultures threads that are dominating public conversation right now.
