Mating dragonflies (10.21)

Walking around the sewage ponds near the airport in Austin yesterday (where the birders go), it was dragonfly paradise.

In more ways than one. This one caught a monarch butterfly and munched it before our eyes.

I think these are giant green darners. Making more of them.

There were also ducks, including this placid Northern Shoveler in eclipse mode (i.e., feathers molting for the winter).
